English 269: Introduction to Digital Media
Instructor: Ryan Omizo
This course is designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of producing digital media texts for a public audience. You will be reading scholarship in the fields of digital media, rhetorical theory; analyzing digital media objects; and producing a series of short digital media compositions such as photo arguments, audio essays, and video arguments appropriate for public venues such as YouTube. You will gain hands-on experience with digital composing programs such as Audacity, PhotoShop, GIMP, iMovie, and Flash. No prior technical experience is required.
Requirements: a blog portfolio containing a photo documentary, an audio autobiography, and a video documentary that advances a purposive argument, and regular participation in class and Carmen discussions and peer reviews.
This course meets the following GEC REQUIREMENT: Category 2.C(2) Arts and Humanities, Visual/Performing Arts.
